A room that a person may be held in whilst in the police station or in court. It may be possible to ask for a child to be kept outside a cell. The police have guidance as to how to treat children in custody.1
A child should not be placed in a police cell unless there is no secure accommodation available and the custody officer considers that it is not practicable to supervise the child unless the child is placed in a cell.2
The period of detention should not be longer than necessary and a child must never be held with a detained adult.3
