Advice for lawyers and Youth Justice Services

The YJLC advice line is operated by youth justice specialist lawyers with the aim of supporting other professionals to get better outcomes for children in the criminal legal system.

Advice Line Information

The advice line is run by a small part-time team and enquiries from YJLC member organisations will be prioritised over those of non-member organisations.

From July 1st 2025 non-member organisations will be limited to one enquiry per year. If you wish to become a YJLC member organisation, please go to our membership page or contact [email protected] for further information.

Using the Advice Line

Click here to access our Advice Line query form  or you can email us at [email protected] and we will endeavour to respond to your query as soon as possible.

Please do not use the [email protected] email address for Advice Line queries.

We regularly take a range of enquiries from different professionals including criminal lawyers, Youth Justice Services, social workers, or indeed any other professional with a youth justice query. Our advice ranges from explaining points of law to bespoke support on individual cases. Our aim is to support others to understand and apply the law in a Child First manner and to de-escalate criminal justice responses wherever possible.

While you are waiting for a response you may wish to consider whether you can find answers to your query in the Recently Asked Questions section of our website and the other legal resources available there.

The Resources section of our website includes valuable information on a range of key youth justice topics. Our legal guides and updates have been created to help practitioners achieve best practice when representing children in the criminal justice system.

Thank you so much for your response and advice with this matter. It can sometimes feel hopeless when trying to advocate for children during complex Court proceedings. It is the first time I have used your service and I’m so pleased to have reached out. Thank you for doing what you do and no doubt I will come back to you for further guidance if needed.
