Bail Support Packages: the legal framework

20th July 2026 2:00–4:30 pm
£120 per person (£60 for YJLC members - email [email protected] for your members' discount code)

A practical, hands-on workshop for Youth Justice professionals working with children at risk of custodial remand.

Learn how to build strong, court-ready bail support packages using the legal framework—strengthening arguments for community-based alternatives and reducing unnecessary remands.

Through real case studies and guided discussion, explore current policy (including the Government’s white paper) and HMIP findings, and sharpen your ability to navigate complex bail and remand decisions in practice.

Practical. Interactive. Directly applicable to day-to-day youth justice work.

  • Real case studies to explore challenges commonly faced in practice
  • Guided group discussions that encourage shared learning and reflection
  • Practical application of the law on bail & remand
  • Opportunities to test reasoning and navigate complex or ambiguous situations
  • Peer-to-peer learning in a supportive, structured environment

Facilitator: Ruth McGregor-Hamann

Ruth is a highly respected specialist youth justice lawyer with a career dedicated to representing and advocating for children. She helped establish Just for Kids Law, was part of a dedicated youth team at top-tier firm Hodge Jones & Allen, and has been a trusted trainer and facilitator with the Youth Justice Legal Centre for many years, where she is also a senior youth justice lawyer. Her extensive frontline experience—from advising children nationwide through the YJLC Advice Line to representing them at police stations and in court—gives her a deep, practical understanding of diversion and out-of-court decision-making. Combined with over a decade of involvement in youth-focused charities and hands-on work with children, Ruth brings exceptional expertise, insight, and credibility to every workshop she leads.
