The Raheem Sterling Foundation has partnered with the YJLC to bring this year’s summit ‘Exploring Alternatives to the Criminal Legal System for Children’.
The summit will take place at King’s College, London on Thursday 5th October 2023 and will explore alternative avenues and options to the criminal legal system for Children.
Clive Ellington, Chair of Trustees, Raheem Sterling Foundation commented, ‘’YJLC holds a special place with the Foundation; children, their rights and how we help them develop and grow is our main priority. We have to understand the reality of the world we live and issues such as drug and knife crime are very real – we have to do what we can to protect our young people. Our collaboration with YJLC for their Autumn summit will highlight these issues, and give the tools needed to re-create the criminal legal system, using a more holistic approach to caring for those in it. It’s time to create a better and more effective system for now and the future generations to come.’’
Katya Moran, Director, Youth Justice Legal Centre added, “All children should be treated as children first. This is not the reality for many. We have a legal duty to protect children but those who find themselves excluded from school or in the so called ‘justice’ system usually suffer irreparable damage.’’
‘’What if there was another way? The YJLC Summit brings together experts from around the globe to share evolving and revolutionary ideas on getting better outcomes for children. Join us to hear them share knowledge, circulate innovation, and inspire better practice. We hope to bring together a community of people interested in what ‘youth justice’ should really mean.’’
