Custodial sentences that can only be passed by the Crown Court on an defendant who aged 10 to 17.
Section 250 Sentencing Act 2020 allows the Crown Court to sentence children charged with grave crimes to custody (a prison sentence).
It only applies for grave crimes - certain serious offences listed in section 249 Sentencing Act 2020 - and where neither a YRO or a Detention and Training Order (DTO) is suitable. It is normally used to pass a sentence longer than the maximum two years available under a Detention and Training Order (DTO).
