Out of Court Disposal (OOCD)

Legal terms A-Z

Children who commit less serious offences and are at low risk of reoffending can be offered alternatives to being charged with criminal offences.

A child needs to admit committing a criminal offence, this is usually during the police interview.

Out of court disposals may disclosed on an enhanced criminal record check.1

Youth cautions and youth conditional cautions are part of a child’s criminal record.

Out of court disposals include:

  • triage (no further action)
  • community resolution
  • youth caution
  • youth conditional caution
