A hearing that takes place after a person has pleaded guilty but they say that they disagree with prosecution version of events. It takes place if the parties cannot agree on a written basis of plea.
The hearing is like a mini-trial, but without a jury. After hearing the evidence, a judge will decide whether their version or the prosecution’s version is true. The judge’s decision will make a difference to what sentence the person is given and whether they will get credit for pleading guilty.
