When the court case has not finished. It has been stopped and will start again later, or on another day.
A case may be adjourned where a child fails to attend for his or her trial, where further enquiries need to be made, where the court wishes to make an interim injunction or order, where a report is being prepared prior to sentence or as deemed appropriate by the court.
An adjournment before a plea is taken may also be necessary to consider whether an Out of Court Resolution should be issued to a child, where they indicate they will now make admissions in a case. This situation is specifically included in the Youth Court Bench Book.
An application to adjourn will also be considered in line with the principles outlined in paragraph 6 of the Youth Court Bench Book.
