Any boy aged between 15 and 17 will be sent to a young offenders’ institution if remanded into youth detention accommodation or given a prison sentence, unless they are vulnerable, in which case they will be sent to a secure training centre or secure children’s home.

The Youth Justice Board will decide where to accommodate any 15-17 year old boy, with input from the local youth offending team, which provides information about the child’s needs, risks and circumstances.
