Police interview

A police interview is part of the police investigation, and is recorded so it can be used in court if necessary.

The police use interrogation techniques during police interviews and the interview can be used as evidence in court. It is always advisable to ask for free legal advice and speak to a lawyer before a police interview. The police may ask a child and their parent to come to the police station for an informal ‘chat’ with police officers – this is a called a voluntary police interview and it is important that you ask a lawyer to come with you.
